johnl-oai 18795fc125 Support Windows registry overrides for requirements.toml (#55456)
## What changed

Read `RequirementsPath` from the 64-bit registry view of `HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\OpenAI\Codex` to select the system requirements file on Windows. Require an absolute path and return an error for relative values. If the registry key or value cannot be read, retain the default `OpenAI\Codex\requirements.toml` location under ProgramData.

## Testing

Expand absolute-path validation tests to cover empty, drive-relative, and root-relative paths. Update the Windows default-directory test to remain independent of registry overrides.

cooper-oai c3bb20602d Add wire types for runtime agent registration (#55398)
## What changed

Add `codex-runtime-agent-instance` with serializable registration requests and deserializable responses. Requests support OAuth, personal access tokens, and platform API keys, along with an installation ID, public key, harness metadata, and runtime role. Responses include runtime and host IDs plus ChatGPT or platform actor context.

Use `RedactedString` for credentials to keep secrets out of debug output.

## Testing

Add tests covering request serialization for all three credential types, debug redaction, response decoding for both actor types, and rejection of responses missing required fields.

johnl-oai c6e29b4fcb Migrate the Windows MXC sandbox to mxc-sdk (#55378)
## What changed

- Replace the separate MXC crates with `mxc-sdk` and adapt request construction to its policy and optional environment fields.
- Preserve the native availability probe by caching successful process security environment creation and startup attribute initialization without launching a process.
- Use the SDK's native denied-path support check and configure Bazel resource compilation for Windows GNU targets.

## Testing

Extend the request construction test to verify that nonempty environments use `Some` and empty environments use `None`.

pakrym-oai ce0323f2f2 Support typed content in contextual prompt fragments (#54776)
## Why

Contextual fragments and extension-owned world-state sections currently return strings, limiting them to text content.

## What changed

- Return `ContentItem` from fragment bodies and rendering, preserving classification and attribution. Apply text markers only to `InputText`; pass other content through unchanged.
- Allow extension prompt and world-state contributions to carry typed content, and preserve media in context-window hints.
- Hash non-text world-state fragments by their serialized content and role while retaining the existing text hashing behavior.
- Add shared content-to-tool-output conversion that preserves image references, image detail, and audio.

## Testing

Add coverage for typed world-state hashing and preservation of image content and attribution. Expand code-mode output tests to cover input text, output text, file-backed and inline images, and audio.

Adam Perry @ OpenAI df8990e261 Upgrade zip to 9.0.0 and update plugin archive extraction (#54761)
## Why

Curated plugin archives should preserve executable permissions without applying setuid, setgid, or sticky bits.

## What changed

- Upgrade `zip` from 2.4.2 to 9.0.0, retaining the previous feature set and selecting the existing `bzip2-sys` backend explicitly. Update the Cargo and Bazel lockfiles.
- Adapt plugin extraction to fallible entry names and apply Unix permissions through the open output file, using the mode filtered by `zip`.

## Testing

Add a Unix regression test that encodes special permission bits directly in an archive entry and verifies that the extracted file has mode `0o755`.

Adam Perry @ OpenAI e7de1f4440 Add an opt-in tool for copying files between environments (#54674)
## What changed

Add the `codex-multi-env-copy-file` extension, exposing `multi_env_copy_file` when registered by the host. Copy files between distinct selected environments without loading their contents into model context, and return `bytes_copied` on completion.

Require absolute paths in each environment's native path convention and enforce each endpoint's sandbox policy and permission grants. Stream file contents where supported, with a buffered fallback for older executors. Reject same-environment copies and report I/O error kinds without exposing connection details. Warn that failed writes may leave a truncated or partially written target.

## Testing

Add integration tests for binary transfers in both directions, local and remote executors, path validation, opt-in tool visibility, endpoint permissions and grants, and unavailable or disconnected executors. Verify that copied contents stay outside model context.

Alex Zamoshchin b26b0a7a77 Prefer resource-specific scopes during MCP OAuth discovery (#54653)
## Why

Authorization server metadata can advertise scopes unrelated to the MCP resource. Using that list for discovery can request broader scopes than the resource requires.

## What changed

Update `rmcp` and use its initial scope selection during OAuth discovery: prefer scopes from the initial `WWW-Authenticate` challenge, fall back to protected resource metadata, and include `offline_access` when supported. Stop using the authorization server's general scope list as the discovered resource scopes.

## Testing

Add coverage for challenge scope precedence, resource metadata fallback, scope normalization, and exclusion of unrelated authorization server scopes. Add a no-browser login regression test for a preregistered client whose authorization server advertises neither scopes nor dynamic registration.

Sean Huang 6ae8b8aa7c Upgrade V8 to 152.2.0 and backport Array.sort safety guards (#54519)
## Why

Optimized `Array.prototype.sort` can write objects into incompatible array element storage when receiver element kinds differ and the comparator mutates the array.

## What changed

- Upgrade `v8` to `152.2.0`, the Bazel V8 source to `15.2.124.1`, and ICU data and initialization to version 78.
- Backport element-kind agreement checks for sort inlining in TurboFan and Maglev. Apply the patch to Bazel builds and Windows MSVC source builds, and include it in source-build cache keys and canary triggers.
- Refresh pinned sandbox archives and bindings, extend Bazel prebuilt coverage to musl Linux, and use matching sandbox bindings on Windows MSVC.
- Update Bazel integration patches and runtime dependencies for the new V8 release, and download the pinned Windows build tools in source-build workflows.

## Testing

Include the upstream sort regression test covering mixed element kinds, comparator mutation, and continued optimization for matching kinds. Add a test requiring canary and Windows source builds when the backport changes, and update artifact-fetch tests for the new version.

jif cb7091b180 Preserve URLs and email addresses during external agent migration (#53706)
## Why

Rewriting source agent names and instruction filenames inside URLs and email addresses can change their destinations when importing external agent content.

## What changed

Use `linkify` to preserve recognized URLs and email addresses while rewriting surrounding text, including Markdown link labels and titles. Continue migrating instruction filename references to `AGENTS.md`, including relative links and references with line or column suffixes.

## Testing

Add rewrite coverage for URLs, email addresses, Markdown links, and surrounding Unicode text. Extend skill import and app-server configuration import tests to verify that link labels migrate while URL destinations remain unchanged.

alishobeiri-oai de8fab6d7a Upgrade rmcp to 3.5.1 and harden lifecycle tests (#52972)
## What changed

- Update the pinned `rmcp` dependency and Cargo/Bazel lockfiles, and migrate MCP handlers and fixtures to `ClientConfig` and `ServerConfig`.
- Stop requiring responses for cancelled elicitation requests in cancellation tests while retaining checks for cleanup and continued connection usability.
- Handle client disconnects during WebSocket writes in the TUI test server, use an asynchronous HTTP mock for loopback proxy testing, and improve remote executor test diagnostics and the Windows subprocess fixture.
- Use `invalid_prompt` for the memory worker failure fixture.

## Testing

Add a regression test covering transport EOF during both form elicitation and user verification. Keep the client alive while checking that pending response channels close, the timeout pause clears, and the service exits with `QuitReason::Closed`.

Channing Conger 2dc0791c7d Add opt-in gRPC over stdio for the code-mode host (#52723)
## What changed

- Add `grpc+stdio://` as a host transport and the disabled-by-default `code_mode_host_grpc` feature flag to select it.
- Share a lazy HTTP/2 channel and host process across code-mode sessions while keeping session state isolated.
- Use HTTP/2 keepalives to detect unresponsive hosts, kill and reap disconnected children, and spawn a fresh host on reconnect. Exit the host when its stdio connection closes.

## Testing

Add coverage for shared-host session isolation, host exit on stdin EOF, and recovery after an unresponsive host is reaped. Exercise nested tool calls with both legacy stdio and gRPC stdio, asserting that the feature flag selects the expected transport.

iceweasel-oai 4aa94dce27 Migrate the Windows MXC sandbox to split MXC crates (#52707)
## Why

PSEC API symbols can be present on transitional Windows builds where MXC is not enabled. Availability detection needs to verify that a native process security environment can actually be created.

## What changed

- Replace `mxc-sdk` with pinned `appcontainer_common`, `learning_mode_windows`, and `wxc_common` dependencies, and update Cargo and Bazel dependency metadata.
- Use MXC's cached create/close probe for `is_available()` and query native deny-path support through `SecurityEnvironmentApi` before launching requests with denied paths.
- Adapt request construction and the existing policy test to the vector-based environment field, and update the sandbox documentation.

jif cd85a26cae Remove the patched zsh shell execution backend (#52160)
## What changed

- Use the standard shell executor and remove the zsh fork escalation runtime, `codex-execve-wrapper`, and `shell-escalation` crate.
- Ignore `shell_zsh_fork` and `unified_exec_zsh_fork`, emit migration notices for legacy configuration, and warn when ignoring managed requirements for these flags.
- Keep the active session's `apply_patch` alias directory readable under restricted filesystem permissions.

## Testing

Add coverage for legacy configuration startup and shell execution, migration notice rendering, active alias directory selection, and nested `apply_patch` execution while other files in `CODEX_HOME` remain unreadable.

iceweasel-oai 1c7c43cd85 Migrate the MXC sandbox to the 1.0.0 SDK (#51819)
## What changed

- Replace the separate MXC crates with the pinned `mxc-sdk` 1.0.0 dependency and update Cargo and Bazel lockfiles.
- Use the cached PSEC API-set check for availability and the SDK's native deny-path capability check before launch. Native creation and request-specific capabilities are validated at launch.
- Map empty environments to `None` to retain Windows user-profile defaults, while keeping nonempty environments explicit. Document the SDK's `SystemRoot` and `LOCALAPPDATA` requirements.
- Configure Bazel's LLVM resource compiler for Windows GNU builds, document Cargo's `RC_PATH` requirement, and add `libproc` and `libsandbox` to the macOS SDK libraries.

## Testing

Update the request-building test to verify that nonempty environments remain explicit and empty environments become `None`.

Benjamin Carlsson 447eac3b81 Decode Windows Terminal's mapped Shift+Enter sequence (#50720)
## Why

Windows Terminal's `sendInput` mapping delivers `ESC[13;2u` as individual console key events. Decode it as `Shift+Enter` so the mapping inserts a newline in the composer.

## What changed

- Wrap the Windows event stream with a decoder for the complete Escape-prefixed sequence, including interleaved key releases.
- Use a fixed 50 ms deadline for partial sequences and replay incomplete or mismatched input unchanged. Preserve literal text, paste events, and native key events.
- Update the `crossterm` revision and dependency lockfiles.

## Testing

Add tests for repeated and fragmented mappings, deadline handling, unchanged input, error and end-of-stream replay, and composer newline rendering with a snapshot.

michaelm-openai 7135b303d9 Upgrade age to 0.12.1 and remove the obsolete advisory exception (#50166)
## Why

Local secrets storage pulled in the unmaintained `proc-macro-error2` through `age` and `i18n-embed-fl`, requiring an exception for `RUSTSEC-2026-0173`.

## What changed

Upgrade `age` to `0.12.1` and update the Cargo and Bazel lockfiles. The updated dependency chain uses `proc-macro-error3`, allowing removal of the advisory exception from both `cargo-audit` and `cargo-deny` configuration.

Benjamin Carlsson b707714ae4 Add a native gRPC client for cloud thread resume and attach (#50113)
## What changed

Add `codex-cloud-client`, a reusable Rust client for `ThreadService.Resume` and live `ThreadService.Attach` over HTTP/2. Callers supply the native gRPC origin, bearer token, account ID, and `HttpClientFactory`.

- Reuse shared proxy, custom CA, and network policy handling for HTTPS. Reject redirects and allow plaintext HTTP only on direct loopback with unrestricted, unmanaged policy.
- Preserve notification and server-request protobuf payloads as opaque bytes and expose native gRPC status details while redacting credentials, payloads, and error details from diagnostics.
- Bound resume and attach setup to 150 seconds without retrying requests or imposing an idle deadline on live streams. Attach ends on its first error and provides no history or automatic reconnect.
- Select Rustls in `HttpClientBuilder::http2_prior_knowledge()` so HTTPS advertises `h2` through ALPN.

Include a standalone attach example and documentation of admission semantics and stream behavior.

## Testing

Add HTTP/2 fixture tests for protobuf framing, authentication metadata, status trailers, event preservation, malformed responses, stream cancellation, redirect rejection, and diagnostic redaction. Add checks for unsafe origins, network policy restrictions, and TLS `h2` advertisement.

Tamir Duberstein b06b7d2f77 Upgrade Windows bindings to windows-sys 0.61.2 (#50058)
## What changed

- Centralize `windows-sys` at version `0.61.2` in the workspace and migrate dependent crates to it.
- Adapt Windows API calls to the updated handle, boolean, and type definitions. Replace custom handle owners with `OwnedHandle` and use `BorrowedHandle` where ownership stays with the caller.
- Add explicit wrappers for non-owning Windows handles passed between threads.

## Testing

Enable the MCP refresh cleanup test on Windows. Retain process handles to verify that a superseded MCP server stays alive during an in-flight call, exits after cancellation, and leaves the replacement running until shutdown.

Dmitriy Kovalenko 3620b2caf8 Detect SQLite corruption during startup and preserve recovery backups (#49701)
## Why

A database can open successfully while containing corruption that startup previously missed. Detecting it before runtime initialization completes allows recoverable databases to be rebuilt while preserving the damaged files.

## What changed

- Run `PRAGMA quick_check(1)` when opening writable databases, with a 100 ms scan budget. Share attempts across cloned `SqliteConfig` instances by file identity so repeated opens skip validation and replacement files are checked again.
- Back up and rebuild runtime databases that support recovery. Report corruption without rebuilding thread history or other databases without an automatic recovery policy. Treat interrupted or locked checks as incomplete rather than confirmed corruption.
- Collect startup backups across recovery retries and include their locations in the app server warning. Explain that saved conversations can restore the thread list and history, while some database-only metadata may be unavailable.
- Record confirmed corruption in `codex.sqlite.corruption.count`.

## Testing

Add tests for recovery policies, backup preservation, validation caching and concurrency, cancelled and interrupted checks, and locked databases. Add app server coverage for recovery warnings and saved conversation restoration, a TUI warning snapshot, and message board post preservation.

Nick Steele c9b3924a62 Use the rmcp SDK for enterprise-managed token exchanges (#49473)
## What changed

Upgrade `rmcp` to a pinned Git revision of version `3.3.0` and enable `auth-enterprise-managed`. Delegate the two-stage ID-JAG exchange and token validation to the SDK, replacing the local implementation while retaining Codex HTTP routing and credential lifecycle policy.

Map SDK errors by exchange stage so `invalid_grant` distinguishes enterprise identity failures from resource authorization failures, and preserve handling of `insufficient_user_authentication`.

## Testing

Update exchange tests to verify rejection of unsupported `authorization_details` and malformed signed scopes. Exercise errors from both token endpoints to check credential policy, prevent credential reflection in diagnostics, and ensure rejected grants are not retried.

jgershen-oai 9212b3eca8 Serialize tests that share Windows sandbox accounts (#49389)
## Why

Elevated sandbox tests share machine-local Windows accounts. Concurrent setup can rotate account passwords between another test's setup and logon.

## What changed

- Add a shared file-lock guard for elevated sandbox tests in `codex-core`, `codex-exec-server`, and `codex-windows-sandbox`, held through sandbox commands and cleanup.
- Queue these tests in a single-threaded Nextest group before their timeouts start, while retaining the file lock to coordinate other test processes.
- Limit account locking to tests that use elevated accounts and remove the sandbox crate's blanket Bazel `exclusive-if-local` tag.

jif 68e1a421f5 Support remote agent message boards in multi-agent sessions (#49267)
## What changed

Add `features.multi_agent_v2.message_board_remote` with a board URL and a bearer token supplied directly or through an environment variable. When configured, use the remote board in preference to local or in-memory storage, including in ephemeral sessions, while preserving the existing board tools and session identity.

Eric Traut fbc169827e Suppress Windows console windows for background subprocesses (#49164)
## Why

Background helpers launched from a detached Windows process can allocate console windows. Job Object launches and containment fallbacks need to preserve console suppression as well.

## What changed

- Add `codex_utils_process::background_command` to set `CREATE_NO_WINDOW` on Windows, and use it across background subprocess launches, including Git, plugins, authentication, diagnostics, and sandbox helpers.
- Centralize console suppression in Job Object launches. Keep `CREATE_NO_WINDOW` when retrying without containment, and clear `CREATE_SUSPENDED` so the fallback child can run.
- Preserve console inheritance for interactive shell launches and interactive AWS authentication refreshes.

## Testing

Add Windows regression tests covering console-free launches from detached parents through standard and Tokio commands, stdout/stderr capture, successful containment, Job Object creation and assignment failures, and sandbox setup refresh helpers.

## What changed

Add `codex-agent-message-board-client` with a `RemoteAgentMessageBoard` implementation of the existing `AgentMessageBoard` interface over a versioned HTTP API. Use the shared HTTP client for authenticated board creation, deletion, member registration, and board operations.

Validate endpoints and credentials, bound request and response sizes, and support a caller-supplied clock. Allow post retries without a fresh timestamp so the service can replay an already committed result.

Provide live SSE receivers that wait for readiness and reject notifications for another agent or turn, as well as previews exceeding 150 characters.

Ahmed Ibrahim a16381c445 Align Cargo and Bazel Rust debug information defaults (#47748)
## Why

Keep source locations available without full debug information in ordinary builds, and retain symbols until release packaging. macOS targets also need to avoid invoking `dsymutil` in Linux remote Rust actions where it is unavailable.

## What changed

- Set Cargo's `dev` profile to `line-tables-only` and let `ci-test` inherit it through `test`. Document environment overrides for full debug information.
- Patch `rules_rs` to use line tables for `fastbuild` and `opt`, full debug information for `dbg`, and no stripping in all three modes.

Anthony Tafoya ab7439231c Add executor capability discovery V2 infrastructure (#47683)
## What changed

- Define `capabilities/discoverV2` request and inventory types and advertise `capabilityDiscoveryV2` in executor metadata.
- Prewarm installed plugin and global skill locations at server startup, with nonfatal scan failures.
- Add sandbox-scoped discovery caching with file watcher invalidation and request-time reloads when watching is unavailable.
- Batch metadata reads through the filesystem sandbox helper and bound discovery responses to 4 MiB and 2,048 capabilities.
- Share plugin identity and installed-version selection in `codex-core-plugin-common`, and fall back to `.app.json` when a plugin does not declare an apps configuration.

The V2 discovery manager is not yet wired into RPC request dispatch.

## Testing

Add coverage for inventory metadata, sandbox cache isolation, watcher invalidation, startup scan failures, response limits, and compatibility with older executor metadata.

acrognale-oai 8f8ace78cb Enforce application network policy for AWS auth and telemetry (#47408)
## Why

AWS credential discovery, analytics, and telemetry used clients that did not share the application's network policy. These requests need to honor destination restrictions and permission revocation.

## What changed

- Route AWS credential and region HTTP requests through the shared HTTP client, and check the signing destination before loading credentials. Skip discovery for static access keys with an explicit region.
- Apply account-scoped policy to Bedrock authentication. Require unrestricted policy for credential exporters and reauthentication commands, and cancel active work when permission is revoked. Document that AWS profile `credential_process` network traffic remains outside the application's HTTP policy.
- Send analytics through the authenticated account's HTTP client factory.
- Guard OTLP log, trace, and metric exports with revocable permits, disable them under destination restrictions, and make managed HTTP exports cancellable. Suppress global Statsig settings while managed policy is active.

## Testing

Add coverage for metadata credential request cancellation, allowed and denied SigV4 destinations, AWS credential precedence and endpoint configuration, and blocked credential exporter recovery. Update telemetry tests for account transitions and managed-policy Statsig suppression.

Ahmed Ibrahim 3627bb91b2 Avoid building a host SQLite driver for SQLx macros (#47084)
## Why

Row derives and migration embedding do not need query macros or a host SQLite driver.

## What changed

- Remove the `macros` feature from `sqlx` and depend directly on `sqlx-macros` with only `derive` and `migrate` enabled.
- Update state and thread-store derives and migration embedding to use `sqlx_macros`.
- Enable `sqlx-sqlite`'s `offline` feature directly to preserve query-description support in the target driver.
- Pin `sqlx`, `sqlx-macros`, and `sqlx-sqlite` to `=0.9.0` to keep their versions aligned.

jif 6149914a0e Wire agent message boards into persistent multi-agent runtimes (#47017)
## What changed

- Register the existing message-board tools with the app server through a lifecycle extension, gated on `agent_message_board`, multi-agent v2, and non-ephemeral sessions. The new feature flag is disabled by default.
- Bind tools to each agent's identity and share the SQLite-backed board across the agent tree and runtime resumes.
- Use the runtime clock for posts and deliver ID-only notifications to running agents, with tools to retrieve post contents. Skip inactive recipients without starting them or queuing notices.
- Emit a warning and leave board tools unavailable if initialization fails.

## Testing

Add runtime scenarios and a context snapshot covering feature gating without creating storage, posting and searching, active-only notifications, sharing with child agents, persistence across resume, and clock failure without channel creation.

jif 293de27177 Add SQLite storage for local agent message boards (#46966)
## What changed

Add `LocalAgentMessageBoard` with persistent channels, posts, and subscriptions scoped by `SessionId`. Support channel creation, posting and replies, subscription changes, and bounded reads using Unicode character offsets.

Serialize mutations across independent handles with immediate transactions. Deduplicate retries by caller and request ID, reject changed requests that reuse an ID, and return existing post metadata without repeating notifications. Deliver deduplicated notifications after commit; notification failures leave committed posts successful and readable.

## Testing

Add integration tests covering concurrent retries across independent handles, reopening persisted boards, subscription routing, board isolation, Unicode reads, invalid recipients, inactive recipients, and notification failures.

jif abbdde95b5 Add shared agent message-board extension interfaces (#46959)
## What changed

Add `codex-agent-message-board-extension` to the Cargo workspace with a Bazel target. Define backend-independent contracts for discussions within a persistent agent tree:

- `AgentMessageBoard` covers channel creation, posting, thread listing, post search, bounded reads, and subscriptions, with documented membership and retry semantics.
- `MessageBoardHost` provides agent resolution, the caller's configured clock, and metadata notifications restricted to active turns.
- Shared request and response types represent channels, posts, threads, subscriptions, and cursor pagination, including derived page counts and continuation indicators.

The crate defines interfaces and records for local or remote backends; storage, tool adapters, and feature registration remain separate.

Eric Traut f915e0de07 Render Mermaid code blocks as diagrams in the TUI (#46054)
## What changed

- Render completed `mermaid` fences with `codex-mermaid`, using syntax-theme colors for nodes and edges.
- Keep source visible for unclosed, invalid, unsupported, or oversized diagrams, and preserve the original Mermaid for copying and raw mode.
- Keep streamed diagrams mutable until the next top-level block so closing fences and terminal resizing can update their display. Preserve scrollback progress across width and render-mode changes.

## Testing

Add renderer and streaming tests covering supported diagram families, nested fences, Unicode, theme colors, source fallbacks, resizing, raw-mode transitions, and original-source preservation. Verify that node connection ports retain node styling in all four flowchart directions.

richardopenai 2aff7208fe Add a hidden HTTP/3 TCP tunnel command (#45900)
## What changed

Add `codex tcp-tunnel` and the `codex-tcp-tunnel` crate to forward loopback TCP connections to an explicit target through a TLS-verified HTTP/3 CONNECT proxy.

- Require the proxy origin to match an approved HTTPS origin in a supplied policy file.
- Read bearer tokens and optional bounded, non-forwarding `x-` headers from stdin. Support token updates for new connections, `LISTENING` and `AUTH_UPDATED` notifications, and shutdown when the control pipe closes in token-update mode.
- Preserve the listener across proxy reconnects without replaying TCP streams, and let accepted streams continue while a proxy drains.

## Testing

Add tests for hidden CLI parsing, proxy and target validation, credential renewal, control-pipe closure, and invalid input without secret disclosure. A local HTTP/3 proxy test covers token replacement, transport recovery without stream replay, and graceful draining.

Eric Traut 7c709f0ffd Add a bounded Mermaid text renderer (#45817)
## What changed

Add `codex-mermaid`, a standalone crate that renders supported subsets of flowchart, sequence, state, class, and ER diagrams as Unicode text. Expose `render` for plain text and `render_spans` for semantic node, edge, and text spans that callers can style.

Enforce source, diagram, canvas, and display-width limits. Return errors for unsupported input or exceeded limits without producing partial diagrams, leaving source fallback to callers. Include documentation and a stdin rendering example.

## Testing

Add snapshots for each diagram family, checks for relationship endpoints, Unicode labels, semantic spans, truncated input, and size limits, plus edge reconstruction for all 512 directed three-node graphs in all four layout directions.

jif 713caa89f3 Bound app-server stdio shutdown and handle Unix SIGTERM gracefully (#44523)
## Why

Stdio shutdown can hang on open pipes or blocked I/O, and Unix `SIGTERM` needs to run connection cleanup so owned commands terminate and session-end hooks execute.

## What changed

- Handle `SIGTERM` on a dedicated signal thread and close the stdio connection through the existing cleanup path.
- Move blocking stdin and stdout operations to dedicated threads so they do not hold the Tokio runtime open. Cancel message forwarding on `SIGTERM` to release blocked producers.
- When shutdown signal handling is enabled on Unix, start a shared 45-second watchdog on EOF or `SIGTERM`. Preserve the first deadline and exit with status `1` if cleanup or runtime teardown stalls, even when logging is blocked.

## Testing

Add Unix integration coverage for shutdown with open pipes, blocked stdout, blocked stderr, and a stalled filesystem write. Verify command and child-process termination, preserve the EOF deadline when `SIGTERM` follows, and extend session-end hook coverage to `SIGTERM`.

Winston Howes 5a9aec40a5 Extend configured credential brokerage to embedded aliases (#44066)
## What changed

- Discover configured provider credentials in child environment values even when canonical credential variables are absent. Match complete tokens while preserving regex word boundaries and avoiding ambiguous or overlapping provider matches.
- Replace and restore credentials by their original spans, preserving adjacent tokens and generated dummy aliases across destination rebinding. Reject dummy values that embed another provider's credentials.
- Extend text virtualization and provider source checks to configured credentials, including short credentials with distinctive prefixes, while preserving operational paths.
- Expose trusted provider metadata and active bindings through `CredentialBrokerEnvironment`, and remove marked configured credential variables when stripping the managed proxy environment.

## Testing

Add regression tests for alias discovery, regex boundaries and alternatives, overlapping and adjacent credentials, destination rebinding, dummy restoration, disallowed credential sources, and operational path preservation.

## What changed

- Add `credential_providers` configuration for environment variables, credential patterns, static or environment-derived URL prefixes, and bearer, token, Basic, or custom header authentication.
- Generate matching dummy credentials and restrict replacement to authorized schemes, hosts, ports, and path prefixes. Scope credentials and destination history to each environment.
- Preserve real credentials for destinations that bypass the proxy with `allow_local_binding`, while providing snapshot redaction and alias matching.
- Validate provider definitions and preserve unchanged providers across configuration reloads.

## Testing

Add coverage for dummy generation, authentication translation, URL restrictions, environment isolation, configuration reloads, and credential restoration for local proxy bypass.

Eric Traut 769a6a5bcd Record the launched app-server executable identity in PID files (#43552)
## Why

An installer can retarget the selected executable symlink or junction while an app server is running. Recording the launch-time identity preserves which binary was started after that path changes.

## What changed

- Resolve the executable path before launching on all platforms and store an optional executable identity in app-server PID records. Continue accepting older records without this field and expose the identity only for an active process.
- Use BLAKE3 for executable identity digests and make `ExecutableIdentity` serializable.
- Schedule updater checks with an explicit deadline in `tokio::select!`, preserving persisted update intervals, settings-error retries, and termination handling.

## Testing

Add a Unix test that verifies the recorded identity matches the resolved launch binary, differs from a retargeted symlink's binary, and remains optional when reading legacy PID records.

riley-oai b7ad941b1f Add user-verification provider abstractions and RPC adapters (#43547)
## What changed

- Introduce `codex-user-verification` with a provider interface for credential status, creation, deletion, and challenge signing. Include typed errors, shared cancellation guards, and hashed account-user key namespaces.
- Add P-256 public-key encoding as unpadded base64url SPKI DER, derive credential IDs from its SHA-256 digest, and redact proof fields in debug output.
- Add app-server helpers to validate challenge and display-text bounds and map provider errors to typed RPC errors without exposing provider diagnostics.

The platform implementation reports verification as unsupported. App-server requests still return typed unavailability, with the message updated to mention build or account availability.

## Testing

Add tests for credential encoding and signature verification, invalid curve points, cancellation across guard clones, stable and distinct account namespaces, and invalid challenge or display values. Update the app-server unavailability test for the revised message.
