Adam Perry @ OpenAI 3b6ab3471a Normalize formatting in docs, web assets, and sample scripts (#52256)
## What changed

- Reformat Markdown tables and lists, login pages, inline visualization HTML, and sample JavaScript scripts.
- Escape union-type pipes in Python SDK API tables so they render within their cells.
- Keep the formatting-recipe test focused on the working directory and formatter commands by removing assertions on comment text.

Eric Traut 00d92ad3ee Standardize TUI menu description wording and punctuation (#47329)
## What changed

Remove trailing periods from concise built-in option descriptions and disabled-option explanations, and simplify wording across TUI menus. Share the built-in permission preset descriptions between permission pickers.

Document the convention in `codex-rs/tui/styles.md`, including normal punctuation for descriptions with multiple sentences and preservation of externally supplied descriptions.

## Testing

Update menu assertions and rendering snapshots for the revised copy and line wrapping.

Eric Traut 132c2be239 Improve TUI contrast, keyboard hints, and picker layouts (#46680)
## Why

Theme colors and dimmed text can lose contrast against terminal and shaded backgrounds. Pickers also need to keep controls and the selected result visible when space is limited.

## What changed

- Add shared blue accents and contrast-aware foregrounds that account for painted backgrounds and terminal color depth, with terminal-default fallbacks for limited palettes.
- Apply readable colors to footer text, status lines, prompt attachment labels, and diff content. Remove dimming from syntax-highlighted diff text so it does not undo contrast correction.
- Use compact shortcut labels such as `ctrl+c`, emphasize complete key combinations, and separate composer footer actions with ` · `.
- Add an opt-in picker presentation with full-width selection, filled tabs, separate overflow indicators, and navigation based on visible rows. Enable it for `/keymap`, reserving result space to keep controls stable across filtering and tab changes.

## Testing

Add regression tests and snapshots for contrast after palette conversion, shaded diff backgrounds, shortcut typography, picker resizing and pagination, Unicode tab truncation, and stable `/keymap` geometry.

Eric Traut 61429a6c10 Rename tui_app_server to tui (#16104)
This is a follow-up to https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/15922. That
previous PR deleted the old `tui` directory and left the new
`tui_app_server` directory in place. This PR renames `tui_app_server` to
`tui` and fixes up all references.

Eric Traut d65deec617 Remove the legacy TUI split (#15922)
This is the part 1 of 2 PRs that will delete the `tui` /
`tui_app_server` split. This part simply deletes the existing `tui`
directory and marks the `tui_app_server` feature flag as removed. I left
the `tui_app_server` feature flag in place for now so its presence
doesn't result in an error. It is simply ignored.

Part 2 will rename the `tui_app_server` directory `tui`. I did this as
two parts to reduce visible code churn.

ae 5bce369c4d fix: clean up styles & colors and define in styles.md (#2401)
New style guide:

  # Headers, primary, and secondary text

- **Headers:** Use `bold`. For markdown with various header levels,
leave in the `#` signs.
  - **Primary text:** Default.
  - **Secondary text:** Use `dim`.

  # Foreground colors

- **Default:** Most of the time, just use the default foreground color.
`reset` can help get it back.
- **Selection:** Use ANSI `blue`. (Ed & AE want to make this cyan too,
but we'll do that in a followup since it's riskier in different themes.)
  - **User input tips and status indicators:** Use ANSI `cyan`.
  - **Success and additions:** Use ANSI `green`.
  - **Errors, failures and deletions:** Use ANSI `red`.
  - **Codex:** Use ANSI `magenta`.

  # Avoid

- Avoid custom colors because there's no guarantee that they'll contrast
well or look good on various terminal color themes.
- Avoid ANSI `black`, `white`, `yellow` as foreground colors because the
terminal theme will do a better job. (Use `reset` if you need to in
order to get those.) The exception is if you need contrast rendering
over a manually colored background.

(There are some rules to try to catch this in `clippy.toml`.)

# Testing

Tested in a variety of light and dark color themes in Terminal, iTerm2, and Ghostty.
