feat(app-server): add history_mode to thread (#29927)
## Description This PR adds a new `historyMode = "legacy" | "paginated"` to `Thread`. This will be stored in `SessionMeta` in the JSONL rollout file and as a new column in the SQLite thread_metadata table, and exposed on `thread/start` and on the `Thread` object in app-server. ## What changed - Added canonical `ThreadHistoryMode` with `legacy` and `paginated`, defaulting old and new SessionMeta to `legacy`. - Carried `history_mode` through core session config, ThreadStore stored metadata, local/in-memory stores, rollout metadata extraction, and the existing SQLite `threads` table. - Added experimental `historyMode` to app-server v2 `Thread` and `thread/start`. - Made paginated stored threads metadata-discoverable but unsupported for legacy full-history reads, `load_history`, live resume, and create paths. - Regenerated app-server schema fixtures and added protocol/state/thread-store/app-server coverage for persistence and fail-closed behavior. ## Compatibility floor Because users may be running various versions of Codex binaries on the same machine (TUI, Codex App, etc.), we will need to establish a compatibility floor for upcoming paginated threads, which will change how thread storage reads and writes work. The overall plan here: ``` Release N: - Add historyMode to SessionMeta / Thread / SQLite metadata. - Teach binaries to understand paginated threads. - If a binary sees `historyMode="paginated"` but does not support the paginated contract, it refuses to resume/mutate the thread. - Default remains `"legacy"`. Release N+1: - First-party clients start opting into paginated threads where appropriate. - Internal dogfood / staged rollout. - Measure old-client usage and paginated-thread unsupported errors. Release N+2: - Only after Release N+ is overwhelmingly deployed, make paginated the default. - Accept that a small tail of N-1-or-older binaries may not understand paginated threads. ``` The important behavior change is fail-closed handling for a binary that encounters a persisted `paginated` thread before it knows how to fully support paginated history. In app-server, if a thread is `paginated`, we will: - allow metadata-only discovery paths like `thread/list` and `thread/read(includeTurns=false)`, so clients can still see the thread and inspect its `historyMode` - reject legacy full-history/live-thread paths like `thread/read(includeTurns=true)` and `thread/resume` with an unsupported JSON-RPC error - avoid silently treating an unknown or future `historyMode` as `legacy` Under the hood, the ThreadStore layer also rejects legacy operations that would need to load or replay the full thread history for a paginated thread. That gives us the behavior we want for Release N: future paginated threads are visible, but this binary fails closed instead of trying to operate on them as if they were legacy threads. |

[codex] Add Ultra reasoning effort (#29899)
## Why Ultra should be one user-facing reasoning selection for work that benefits from both maximum reasoning and proactive multi-agent delegation. Without it, clients must coordinate maximum reasoning with the experimental `multiAgentMode` setting, even though the inference backend still expects its existing `max` effort value. This change makes reasoning effort the source of truth: clients select `ultra`, core derives proactive multi-agent behavior when the turn is eligible for multi-agent V2, and inference requests continue to use the backend-compatible `max` value. ## What changed - Add `ultra` as a first-class reasoning effort and preserve model-catalog ordering when exposing it to clients. - Convert `ultra` to `max` at the inference request boundary, including Responses HTTP/WebSocket requests, startup prewarm, compaction, and memory summarization. - Derive effective multi-agent mode per turn from effective reasoning effort: - eligible multi-agent V2 + `ultra` → `proactive` - eligible multi-agent V2 + any other effort → `explicitRequestOnly` - V1 or otherwise ineligible sessions → no multi-agent mode instruction - Keep the derived effective mode in turn context history so successive turns can emit a developer-message update only when the effective mode changes. - Remove selected multi-agent mode from core session configuration, turn construction, thread settings, resume/fork restoration, and subagent spawn plumbing. Subagents inherit reasoning effort and derive their own effective mode. - Retain the experimental app-server `multiAgentMode` fields for wire compatibility while marking them deprecated. Request values are accepted but ignored; compatibility response fields report `explicitRequestOnly`. - Display Ultra in the TUI using the order supplied by `model/list`. ## Validation - `just test -p codex-core ultra_reasoning_uses_max_for_requests` - `just test -p codex-tui model_reasoning_selection_popup` |

Expose thread-level multi-agent mode (#28792)
## Why Once multi-agent mode can be selected per turn, clients also need to choose the initial selection when creating a thread and observe that selection through lifecycle and settings APIs. The selected value is intentionally distinct from the effective model-visible value: no client selection is represented as `null`, even though an eligible multi-agent v2 turn derives `explicitRequestOnly` as its effective default. ## What changed - Add the optional experimental `thread/start.multiAgentMode` parameter and pass it through thread creation. - Preserve an omitted initial value as an unset selection rather than eagerly storing `explicitRequestOnly`. - Apply an explicit `thread/start` selection to the first turn through the session configuration established at thread creation. - Restore the latest persisted effective mode as the selected baseline on cold resume when rollout history contains one. - Inherit the optional selected mode from a loaded parent when creating related runtime threads. - Return the current selected `multiAgentMode` from `thread/start`, `thread/resume`, `thread/fork`, and thread settings, using `null` when no mode is selected. - Keep lifecycle reporting independent from model capability and feature eligibility; core turn construction remains responsible for calculating and persisting the effective mode. ## Not covered - Clearing an existing loaded-session selection back to unset through `turn/start`; omitted or `null` currently retains the session's selection. - A TUI control, slash command, or `config.toml` preference. ## Verification - `CARGO_INCREMENTAL=0 just test -p codex-app-server-protocol` - `CARGO_INCREMENTAL=0 just test -p codex-app-server multi_agent_mode` The focused app-server coverage verifies explicit `thread/start` initialization, first-turn prompting, nullable reporting for an omitted selection, and retention of selections that are not currently runtime-eligible. ## Stack Stacked on #28685. This PR contains only the thread initialization and lifecycle/settings API layer. |

[codex] Restore thread recency with compatible migration history (#28671)
## Summary - Revert #28655, restoring the thread `recencyAt` behavior introduced by #27910. - Move `threads_recency_at` to migration 0039 so it no longer collides with `external_agent_config_imports` at version 0038. - Repair databases that already applied the recency migration as version 38 by moving the matching migration-history row to version 39 before SQLx validation. The current version-38 migration can then apply normally. ## Validation - `just test -p codex-state migrations::tests::repairs_recency_migration_that_was_applied_as_version_38` - `just test -p codex-state -p codex-rollout -p codex-thread-store -p codex-app-server-protocol -p codex-tui`: 3,439 passed; six TUI tests could not open the machine's existing read-only incident database at `~/.codex/sqlite/state_5.sqlite`. - `just fix -p codex-state` - `just fmt` - Verified that state migration versions are unique. |

Add thread recencyAt for sidebar ordering (#27910)
## Summary Add a server-owned `recencyAt` timestamp and `recency_at` thread-list sort key for product recency ordering while preserving the existing meaning of `updatedAt` as the latest persisted thread mutation. This is the server-side alternative to #27697. Rather than narrowing `updatedAt`, clients can sort the sidebar by `recency_at` and continue treating `updatedAt` as mutation time. Paired Codex Apps PR: [openai/openai#1024599](https://github.com/openai/openai/pull/1024599) ## Contract - `recencyAt` initializes when a thread is created. - A turn start advances `recencyAt` monotonically. - Commentary, agent output, tool results, token/accounting updates, turn completion, archive, unarchive, resume, and generic metadata writes do not advance it. - `updatedAt` retains its existing behavior and continues to advance for persisted thread mutations. - Current servers populate `recencyAt`; the response field is optional in generated TypeScript so clients connected to older servers can fall back to `updatedAt`. - Filesystem-only fallback uses existing updated/mtime ordering when SQLite is unavailable. ## Persistence and compatibility Migration 0038 adds second- and millisecond-precision recency columns, backfills them from the existing updated timestamp, creates list indexes, and includes an insert trigger so older binaries writing to a migrated database seed recency without causing later mutations to advance it. Generic metadata upserts preserve existing recency values. Turn-start updates use a dedicated monotonic touch, and process-local allocation keeps millisecond cursor values unique. State DB list, search, read, filtered-list repair, rollout fallback propagation, and app-server conversions all carry the new field. ## API `Thread` responses include: ```ts recencyAt?: number ``` `thread/list` and `thread/search` accept: ```json { "sortKey": "recency_at" } ``` Generated TypeScript and JSON schemas are included. ## Validation - `just test -p codex-state` — 146 passed - `just test -p codex-rollout` — 69 passed - `just test -p codex-thread-store` — 81 passed - `just test -p codex-app-server-protocol` — 231 passed - Focused app-server list ordering, response mapping, archive/unarchive, and resume lifecycle tests passed - Scoped `just fix` for state, rollout, thread-store, app-server-protocol, and app-server - `just fmt` - `git diff --check` - Independent correctness, simplicity, elegance, security, and test-quality reviews; actionable ordering, lifecycle, query-projection, and timestamp-uniqueness findings were addressed |

Pair thread environment settings (#26687)
## Why Thread cwd and environment selections are a single logical setting in core: updating one without the other can silently desynchronize the next-turn execution context. This change makes that relationship explicit in the internal thread settings flow while preserving the existing app-server public API shape. ## What changed - Moved the cwd/environment pair through internal `ThreadSettingsOverrides.environment_settings` instead of a top-level internal `cwd` field. - Kept `thread/settings/update` public params unchanged, with app-server translating top-level `cwd` into the paired internal settings shape. - Moved `Op::UserInput` environment overrides into thread settings so user turns and settings updates use the same core path. - Updated core, app-server, MCP, memories, sample, and test callsites to construct the paired settings shape. ## Verification - `git diff --check` - Local test run starting after PR creation. |

[codex] Support model-defined reasoning efforts (#26444)
## Summary - accept non-empty model-defined reasoning effort values while preserving built-in effort behavior - propagate the non-Copy effort type through core, app-server, TUI, telemetry, and persistence call sites - preserve string wire encoding and expose an open-string schema for clients - update model selection and shortcut behavior for model-advertised effort values ## Root cause `ReasoningEffort` gained a string-backed custom variant, so it could no longer implement `Copy` or rely on derived closed-enum serialization. Existing consumers still moved effort values from shared references and assumed a fixed built-in value set. ## Validation - `just fmt` - Local tests and compilation were not run per request; relying on CI. |

core: stop threading SandboxPolicy through exec (#25700)
## Why #25450 attempts a broad `SandboxPolicy` removal across several unrelated surfaces, which makes it hard to review and still leaves new helper code moving legacy policies around. This PR is a narrower alternative: migrate only the exec-side Windows sandbox plumbing so the review can focus on one production path and one compatibility boundary. The goal is to stop threading `SandboxPolicy` through exec code without expanding the migration into app-server, protocol, telemetry, config, or session behavior. ## What changed - Removed `ExecRequest::compatibility_sandbox_policy()`. - Changed the Windows restricted-token and elevated filesystem override helpers to accept `PermissionProfile` plus the split filesystem/network policies instead of a `SandboxPolicy`. - Kept the remaining legacy projection local to the writable-root comparison that still needs to compare split policy behavior against the legacy Windows backend model. - Rejected restricted split filesystem policies that still grant full-disk writes before using the Windows restricted-token backend, preserving the previous clear-failure behavior for profiles that project to `ExternalSandbox`. - Updated the Windows sandbox override tests to exercise the new call shape and cover the full-write split-profile regression. ## Verification - `just test -p codex-core windows_restricted_token` - `just test -p codex-core windows_elevated` |

store and expose parent_thread_id on Threads (#25113)
## Why This PR https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/24161#discussion_r3325692763 revealed a subagent data modeling issue, where we overloaded `forked_from_id` to also mean `parent_thread_id`. That's incorrect since guardian and review subagents can be a subagent and NOT fork the main thread's history. The solution here is to explicitly store a new `parent_thread_id` on `SessionMeta`, alongside `forked_from_id` which already exists. While we're at it, also expose it in the app-server protocol on the `Thread` object. A thread->subagent relationship and a fork of thread history are orthogonal concepts. ## What Changed - Added top-level `parent_thread_id` persistence on `SessionMeta` and runtime/session plumbing through `SessionConfiguredEvent`, `CodexSpawnArgs`, `SessionConfiguration`, `ThreadConfigSnapshot`, `TurnContext`, and `ModelClient`. - Made turn metadata, request headers, analytics, and subagent-start events read the separate runtime/top-level parent field instead of deriving general parent lineage from `SessionSource` or `forked_from_thread_id`. - Passed parent lineage separately at delegated subagent, review, guardian, agent-job, and multi-agent spawn construction sites; copied-history fork lineage remains derived only from `InitialHistory`. - Persisted and exposed parent lineage through rollout/thread-store projections and app-server v2 `Thread.parentThreadId`. - Updated app-server README text and regenerated app-server schema fixtures for the additive `parentThreadId` response field. |

Add thread/settings/update app-server API (#23502)
## Why App-server clients need a way to update a thread's next-turn settings without starting a turn, adding transcript content, or waiting for turn lifecycle events. This gives settings UI a direct path for durable thread settings while clients observe the eventual effective state through a notification. This is a simplified rework of PR https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/22509. In particular, it changes the `thread/settings/update` api to return immediately rather than waiting and returning the effective (updated) thread settings. This makes the new api consistent with `turn/start` and greatly reduces the complexity of the implementation relative to the earlier attempt. ## What Changed - Adds experimental `thread/settings/update` with partial-update request fields and an empty acknowledgment response. - Adds experimental `thread/settings/updated`, carrying full effective `ThreadSettings` and scoped by `threadId` to subscribed clients for the affected thread. - Shares durable settings validation with `turn/start`, including `sandboxPolicy` plus `permissions` rejection and `serviceTier: null` clearing. - Emits the same settings notification when `turn/start` overrides change the stored effective thread settings. - Regenerates app-server protocol schema fixtures and updates `app-server/README.md`. |

app-server: use profile ids in v2 permission params (#23360)
## Why The v2 app-server permission profile fields are experimental, but the previous migration kept a legacy object payload for profile selection. That made clients aware of server-owned `activePermissionProfile` metadata such as `extends`, and it kept a `legacy_additional_writable_roots` path even though `runtimeWorkspaceRoots` now owns runtime workspace-root selection. This PR makes the client contract match the intended model: clients select a permission profile by id, and the server resolves and reports active profile provenance in response payloads. Follow-up to #22611. ## What Changed - Changed `thread/start`, `thread/resume`, `thread/fork`, and `turn/start` permission profile selection to plain profile id strings. - Changed `command/exec.permissionProfile` to a plain profile id string for the same client/server ownership split. - Removed `PermissionProfileSelectionParams` and the legacy `{ type: "profile", modifications: [...] }` compatibility deserializer. - Updated app-server, TUI, and `codex exec` call sites to send only ids, while keeping `activePermissionProfile` as server response metadata. - Updated app-server docs and schema fixtures for the revised `command/exec.permissionProfile` shape. ## Verification - `cargo test -p codex-app-server-protocol` - `RUST_MIN_STACK=8388608 cargo test -p codex-app-server` - `cargo test -p codex-exec` - `RUST_MIN_STACK=8388608 cargo test -p codex-tui` --- [//]: # (BEGIN SAPLING FOOTER) Stack created with [Sapling](https://sapling-scm.com). app-server: use permission ids and runtime workspace roots (#22611)
## Why This PR builds on [#22610](https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/22610) and is the app-server side of the migration from mutable per-turn `SandboxPolicy` replacement toward selecting immutable permission profiles by id plus mutable runtime workspace roots. Once permission profiles can carry their own immutable `workspace_roots`, app-server no longer needs to mutate the selected `PermissionProfile` just to represent thread-specific filesystem context. The mutable part now lives on the thread as explicit `runtimeWorkspaceRoots`, while `:workspace_roots` remains symbolic until the sandbox is realized for a turn. ## What Changed - Replaced the v2 permission-selection wrapper surface with plain profile ids for `thread/start`, `thread/resume`, `thread/fork`, and `turn/start`. - Removed the API surface for profile modifications (`PermissionProfileSelectionParams`, `PermissionProfileModificationParams`, `ActivePermissionProfileModification`). - Added experimental `runtimeWorkspaceRoots` fields to the thread lifecycle and turn-start APIs. - Threaded runtime workspace roots through core session/thread snapshots, turn overrides, app-server request handling, and command execution permission resolution. - Kept session permission state symbolic so later runtime root updates and cwd-only implicit-root retargeting rebind `:workspace_roots` correctly. - Updated the embedded clients just enough to send and restore the new thread state. - Refreshed the generated schema/TypeScript artifacts and the app-server README to match the new contract. ## Verification Targeted coverage for this layer lives in: - `codex-rs/app-server-protocol/src/protocol/v2/tests.rs` - `codex-rs/app-server/tests/suite/v2/thread_start.rs` - `codex-rs/app-server/tests/suite/v2/thread_resume.rs` - `codex-rs/app-server/tests/suite/v2/turn_start.rs` - `codex-rs/core/src/session/tests.rs` The key regression checks exercise that: - `runtimeWorkspaceRoots` resolve against the effective cwd on thread start. - Profile-declared workspace roots are excluded from the runtime workspace roots returned by app-server. - A turn-level runtime workspace-root update persists onto the thread and is returned by `thread/resume`. - A named permission profile selected on one turn remains symbolic so a later runtime-root-only turn update changes the actual sandbox writes. - A cwd-only turn update retargets the implicit runtime cwd root while preserving additional runtime roots. - The protocol fixtures and generated client artifacts stay in sync with the string-based permission selection contract. --- [//]: # (BEGIN SAPLING FOOTER) Stack created with [Sapling](https://sapling-scm.com). [codex] Fix pathless thread summaries (#21266)
## Summary Fix `getConversationSummary` so thread-id summaries work for stored threads that do not have a local rollout path, such as remote thread stores. The root cause was that `summary_from_stored_thread` returned `None` when `StoredThread.rollout_path` was absent, and `get_thread_summary_response_inner` treated that as an internal error. This made conversation-id lookups depend on a local-only field even though the thread store can address the thread by id. |

feat(app-server): move v2 sessionId onto Thread (#21336)
## Why `session_id` and `thread_id` are separate identities after #20437, but app-server only surfaced `sessionId` on the `thread/start`, `thread/resume`, and `thread/fork` response envelopes. Other thread-bearing surfaces such as `thread/list`, `thread/read`, `thread/started`, `thread/rollback`, `thread/metadata/update`, and `thread/unarchive` either lacked the grouping key or forced clients to special-case those three responses. Making `sessionId` part of the reusable `Thread` payload gives every v2 API surface one place to expose session-tree identity. ## Mental model 1. thread.sessionId lives on `Thread` 2. It is a view/runtime identity for the current live session tree, not durable stored lineage metadata 3. When app-server has a live loaded thread, it copies the real value from core’s session_configured.session_id 4. When it only has stored/unloaded data, it falls back to thread.sessionId = thread.id ## What changed - Added `sessionId` to the v2 [`Thread`](https://github.com/openai/codex/blob/8fc9e9b4cf81b6f61d432e71f1eb266f6f104b63/codex-rs/app-server-protocol/src/protocol/v2/thread_data.rs#L105-L109). - Removed the duplicate top-level `sessionId` fields from `thread/start`, `thread/resume`, and `thread/fork`; clients should now read `response.thread.sessionId`. - Populated `thread.sessionId` when building live thread responses, replaying loaded threads, and returning stored-thread summaries so the field is present across start, resume, fork, list, read, rollback, metadata-update, unarchive, and `thread/started` paths. See [`load_thread_from_resume_source_or_send_internal`](https://github.com/openai/codex/blob/8fc9e9b4cf81b6f61d432e71f1eb266f6f104b63/codex-rs/app-server/src/request_processors/thread_processor.rs#L2824-L2918) and [`thread_from_stored_thread`](https://github.com/openai/codex/blob/8fc9e9b4cf81b6f61d432e71f1eb266f6f104b63/codex-rs/app-server/src/request_processors/thread_processor.rs#L3671-L3719). - Preserved the stored-thread fallback: if a thread has not been loaded into a live session tree yet, `thread.sessionId` falls back to `thread.id`; once the thread is live again, the field reports the active session tree root. - Regenerated the JSON/TypeScript schemas and updated the app-server README examples to show [`thread.sessionId`](https://github.com/openai/codex/blob/8fc9e9b4cf81b6f61d432e71f1eb266f6f104b63/codex-rs/app-server/README.md#L306-L310) on the thread object. |

[codex-analytics] rework thread_source for thread analytics (#20949)
## Summary - make `thread_source` an explicit optional thread-level field on `thread/start`, `thread/fork`, and returned thread payloads - persist `thread_source` in rollout/session metadata so resumed live threads retain the original value - replace the old best-effort `session_source` -> `thread_source` mapping with an explicit caller-supplied analytics classification ## Why Before this change, analytics `thread_source` was populated by a best-effort mapping from `session_source`. `session_source` describes the runtime/client surface, not the actual thread-level origin, so that projection was not accurate enough to distinguish cases such as `user`, `subagent`, `memory_consolidation`, and future thread origins reliably. Making `thread_source` explicit keeps one thread-level analytics field while letting callers provide the real classification directly instead of recovering it indirectly from `session_source`. ## Impact For new analytics events, `thread_source` now reflects the explicit thread-level classification supplied by the caller rather than an inferred value derived from `session_source`. Existing protocol fields remain optional; callers that omit `threadSource` now produce `null` instead of a best-effort inferred value. ## Validation - `just write-app-server-schema` - `cargo test -p codex-analytics -p codex-core -p codex-app-server-protocol --no-run` - `cargo test -p codex-app-server-protocol generated_ts_optional_nullable_fields_only_in_params` - `cargo test -p codex-analytics thread_initialized_event_serializes_expected_shape` - `cargo test -p codex-core resume_stopped_thread_from_rollout_preserves_thread_source` |

state: pass state db handles through consumers (#20561)
## Why SQLite state was still being opened from consumer paths, including lazy `OnceCell`-backed thread-store call sites. That let one process construct multiple state DB connections for the same Codex home, which makes SQLite lock contention and `database is locked` failures much easier to hit. State DB lifetime should be chosen by main-like entrypoints and tests, then passed through explicitly. Consumers should use the supplied `Option<StateDbHandle>` or `StateDbHandle` and keep their existing filesystem fallback or error behavior when no handle is available. The startup path also needs to keep the rollout crate in charge of SQLite state initialization. Opening `codex_state::StateRuntime` directly bypasses rollout metadata backfill, so entrypoints should initialize through `codex_rollout::state_db` and receive a handle only after required rollout backfills have completed. ## What Changed - Initialize the state DB in main-like entrypoints for CLI, TUI, app-server, exec, MCP server, and the thread-manager sample. - Pass `Option<StateDbHandle>` through `ThreadManager`, `LocalThreadStore`, app-server processors, TUI app wiring, rollout listing/recording, personality migration, shell snapshot cleanup, session-name lookup, and memory/device-key consumers. - Remove the lazy local state DB wrapper from the thread store so non-test consumers use only the supplied handle or their existing fallback path. - Make `codex_rollout::state_db::init` the local state startup path: it opens/migrates SQLite, runs rollout metadata backfill when needed, waits for concurrent backfill workers up to a bounded timeout, verifies completion, and then returns the initialized handle. - Keep optional/non-owning SQLite helpers, such as remote TUI local reads, as open-only paths that do not run startup backfill. - Switch app-server startup from direct `codex_state::StateRuntime::init` to the rollout state initializer so app-server cannot skip rollout backfill. - Collapse split rollout lookup/list APIs so callers use the normal methods with an optional state handle instead of `_with_state_db` variants. - Restore `getConversationSummary(ThreadId)` to delegate through `ThreadStore::read_thread` instead of a LocalThreadStore-specific rollout path special case. - Keep DB-backed rollout path lookup keyed on the DB row and file existence, without imposing the filesystem filename convention on existing DB rows. - Verify readable DB-backed rollout paths against `session_meta.id` before returning them, so a stale SQLite row that points at another thread's JSONL falls back to filesystem search and read-repairs the DB row. - Keep `debug prompt-input` filesystem-only so a one-off debug command does not initialize or backfill SQLite state just to print prompt input. - Keep goal-session test Codex homes alive only in the goal-specific helper, rather than leaking tempdirs from the shared session test helper. - Update tests and call sites to pass explicit state handles where DB behavior is expected and explicit `None` where filesystem-only behavior is intended. ## Validation - `CARGO_TARGET_DIR=/tmp/codex-target-state-db cargo check -p codex-rollout -p codex-thread-store -p codex-app-server -p codex-core -p codex-tui -p codex-exec -p codex-cli --tests` - `just argument-comment-lint -p codex-core` - `just argument-comment-lint -p codex-rollout` Focused coverage added in `codex-rollout`: - `recorder::tests::state_db_init_backfills_before_returning` verifies the rollout metadata row exists before startup init returns. - `state_db::tests::try_init_waits_for_concurrent_startup_backfill` verifies startup waits for another worker to finish backfill instead of disabling the handle for the process. - `state_db::tests::try_init_times_out_waiting_for_stuck_startup_backfill` verifies startup does not hang indefinitely on a stuck backfill lease. - `tests::find_thread_path_accepts_existing_state_db_path_without_canonical_filename` verifies DB-backed lookup accepts valid existing rollout paths even when the filename does not include the thread UUID. - `tests::find_thread_path_falls_back_when_db_path_points_to_another_thread` verifies DB-backed lookup ignores a stale row whose existing path belongs to another thread and read-repairs the row after filesystem fallback. Focused coverage updated in `codex-core`: - `rollout_list_find::find_prefers_sqlite_path_by_id` now uses a DB-preferred rollout file with matching `session_meta.id`, so it still verifies that valid SQLite paths win without depending on stale/empty rollout contents. `cargo test -p codex-app-server thread_list_respects_search_term_filter -- --test-threads=1 --nocapture` was attempted locally but timed out waiting for the app-server test harness `initialize` response before reaching the changed thread-list code path. `bazel test //codex-rs/thread-store:thread-store-unit-tests --test_output=errors` was attempted locally after the thread-store fix, but this container failed before target analysis while fetching `v8+` through BuildBuddy/direct GitHub. The equivalent local crate coverage, including `cargo test -p codex-thread-store`, passes. A plain local `cargo check -p codex-rollout -p codex-app-server --tests` also requires system `libcap.pc` for `codex-linux-sandbox`; the follow-up app-server check above used `CODEX_SKIP_VENDORED_BWRAP=1` in this container. |

[codex] Split app-server request processors (#20940)
## Why The app-server request path had grown around a large `CodexMessageProcessor` plus separate API wrapper/helper modules. That made the dependency graph hard to see and forced unrelated request families to share broad processor state. This PR makes the split mechanical and command-prefix oriented so request families own only the dependencies they use. ## What changed - Replaced `CodexMessageProcessor` with command-prefix request processors under `app-server/src/request_processors/`. - Removed the old config, device-key, external-agent-config, and fs API wrapper files by moving their API handling into processors. - Split apps, plugins, marketplace, catalog, account, MCP, command exec, fs, git, feedback, thread, turn, thread goals, and Windows sandbox handling into dedicated processors. - Kept shared lifecycle, summary conversion, token usage replay, and shared error mapping only where multiple processors use them; single-use helpers were inlined into their owning processor. - Removed the fallback processor path and moved processor tests to `_tests` files. ## Validation - `cargo test -p codex-app-server` - `cargo check -p codex-app-server` - `just fix -p codex-app-server` |
