## Why Encrypted compaction payloads can include sampled-token replay caches that increase their size roughly threefold. Budgeting them as ordinary text can reject checkpoints that fit the model context budget. ## What changed Use a shared estimate of one token per twelve ciphertext bytes, rounded up, for encrypted `Compaction` and `ContextCompaction` items in history and Guardian context budgeting. Guardian continues to count framing and metadata separately. Check parent compactions against the configured token budget and a separate hard wire-size limit. Preserve the complete encrypted checkpoint when it fits. The token estimate remains a heuristic and can underestimate legacy checkpoints without replay caches. ## Testing Add coverage for token-estimate rounding, parent compaction token and wire-size limits, and reviewer continuation with a cached compaction preserved intact. codex-protocol
This crate defines the "types" for the protocol used by Codex CLI, which includes both "internal types" for communication between codex-core and codex-tui, as well as "external types" used with codex app-server.
This crate should have minimal dependencies.
Ideally, we should avoid "material business logic" in this crate, as we can always introduce Ext-style traits to add functionality to types in other crates.
