https://github.com/go-gitea/gitea/pull/38046 accidentally dropped
`gitea/unescaped-html-literal` from the eslint config, so it has been
off since. Raised in
https://github.com/go-gitea/gitea/pull/39829#issuecomment-6246720235.
- Re-enable the rule, exempting e2e tests like unit tests
- Detect tags anywhere in strings and template chunks, not only at the
start
- Allow `htmlRaw` templates, they escape like `html`
- Fix the existing violations, which escapes the heatmap tooltip and
shortcut keys
The legacy Fomantic `line-height: 1` on buttons made ellipsized button
text clip descenders like `g` letters, like in the PR target branch
selector. Selection dropdowns were 3px taller than the inputs and
buttons next to them because their padding assumed `line-height: 1em`.
- Buttons and selection dropdowns use `--line-height-default` with
smaller vertical padding, `min-height` keeps their sizes for every font
including CJK
- Remove overrides that only compensated for the old values and dropdown
declarations that never applied
- Label-edit and push-mirror modals use regular-size action buttons like
all other modals
Gitea changed the `dist.tarball` it advertises for already published
versions twice:
| Gitea | `dist.tarball` path of `@scope/name@1.0.0` |
|---|---|
| 1.27 | `%40scope%2Fname/-/1.0.0/name-1.0.0.tgz` |
| 28.0, https://github.com/go-gitea/gitea/pull/39061 |
`@scope%2Fname/-/1.0.0/name-1.0.0.tgz` |
| 28.1, https://github.com/go-gitea/gitea/pull/39434 |
`@scope/name/-/name-1.0.0.tgz` |
pnpm 11.5.2+ verifies the tarball URLs pinned in its lockfile against
the registry metadata, so frozen installs of lockfiles written against
1.27 fail with `ERR_PNPM_TARBALL_URL_MISMATCH`.
- Versions uploaded before this PR get their 1.27 URL back.
- New versions store their canonical tarball path at upload, so later
URL changes can't reach published versions. The host still follows the
request.
Lockfiles written against 28.0 for scoped packages, or by pnpm 12 with
`@scope:registry` against 28.1, need those pinned `tarball:` entries
removed, as 1.27 lockfiles of the same versions need the other URL.

Since https://github.com/go-gitea/gitea/pull/39703, Gitea fails to start
when its gitconfig holds a `gc.reflogExpire` other than `90` (e.g.
`30.days`), because `git config --unset-all` exits 5 when no value
matches. Value patterns were also unanchored regexps, so `90` also
removed `90.days`.
- Match values exactly in `configUnsetAll` and `configAddNonExist`
- Treat "nothing to unset" as success
- Use `--replace-all` in `configSet` so a key with multiple values no
longer fails startup
Gitea's default `gc.reflogExpire = 90` is parsed by git as
`1990-<month>-<day>`, currently `1990-10-09`, so reachable reflog
entries never expired.
Since git 2.54, auto maintenance runs its reflog-expire task in the
foreground of every push, and its trigger ignores reachability, so busy
repos rerun `git reflog expire --all` on every push without pruning
anything, stalling large repos for over a minute.
- Stop setting `gc.reflogExpire` so git's own defaults apply, and remove
the `90` written by earlier versions
- Treat the legacy `[git.reflog] EXPIRATION` as days, as documented
The next push to each repo prunes the accumulated entries once.

Fix two builds that reported a non-semver version.
Docker images built with a `VERSION` file reported a bare commit hash as
their version, and binaries built from the nightly source tarball
reported `main-nightly`. Docker builds now honor `VERSION` like `make`
does, and the nightly source tarball stores the actual version.
Also remove the obsolete `main` to `main-nightly` rename, the branch
case already appends `-nightly`.
| Build | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Docker release | `28.1.0` | `28.1.0` |
| Docker nightly | `29.0.0+dev-83-gab9bcd6a79` |
`29.0.0+dev-83-gab9bcd6a79` |
| Docker with `VERSION` | `c55da3e` | `29.0.0+custom` |
| Release tarball | `28.1.0` | `28.1.0` |
| Nightly tarball | `main-nightly` | `29.0.0+dev-83-gab9bcd6a79` |
Creating a repository with an initial commit, via `auto_init` or a
template with git content, pushed that commit through receive-pack and
three server-side hooks that do nothing for this internal push except
refresh server info. Fetching it into the bare repository instead makes
such repository creation about 3.7x faster locally (median 790ms to
214ms). E2E tests that create initialized repositories get about
0.2-0.3s faster each.
1. Run `update-server-info` after template content generation, which the
push's `post-receive` hook did before.
2. Remove the now unused `InternalPushingEnvironment` and
`PushOptions.LocalRefName`.
Creating a PR fetches the head commit into the base repo, then pushes
the same objects into `refs/pull/N/head`. Since git 2.54, background
repacks race that push:
1. The push can be rejected with "unable to migrate objects to permanent
storage", see
https://github.com/go-gitea/gitea/actions/runs/37171442185/job/111345034829.
2. For heads with 100+ new objects, the repack can delete the reused
pack, leaving the PR ref pointing at missing objects.
Fetching the head commit with `FetchRemoteTempCommit` and setting the PR
ref with `UpdateRef` avoids both, as the fetch transfers nothing when
the objects exist. Fork PR refs are now updated like AGit PR refs
already are, without going through receive hooks.
Also syncs the PR ref when a PR is reopened again.
https://github.com/go-gitea/gitea/pull/37077 inverted that condition, so
a reopened PR kept a stale ref.

Rendering a CITATION.cff could use memory far out of proportion to the

`pull_request_review` runs on fork PRs, which includes all backport PRs,
get a read-only token and no secrets, so giteabot cannot write lgtm

triggers giteabot through `workflow_run`, which gets both. This allows
retiring the legacy fly.io webhook bot.

MSSQL's default READ COMMITTED makes reads wait on writers, so the
runner pickup deadlocks with concurrent claims, flaking
`TestCreateTaskForRunnerConcurrentClaim`.
- Enable `READ_COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT` on MSSQL so it reads like PostgreSQL
and MySQL
- Read the pickup cursor before claiming, a lost claim could skip
waiting jobs
- Add tests that fail without consistent READ COMMITTED
Performance: Writes on MSSQL now also store the previous row version in
tempdb, the same versioning cost PostgreSQL and MySQL always pay, and
Azure SQL enables it by default. Reads no longer block on writers, and a
32-runner pickup stress test ran 2.5x faster with it.

Vue files only got `eslint-plugin-vue` rules, so stylistic and
TypeScript rules never ran on them, and `import-x` could not see cycles
between `.ts` and `.vue` files.
- Apply the main ESLint config to `.vue` files
- Let `import-x` parse `.vue` files, which surfaced a cycle between
`repo-findfile.ts` and `RepoFileSearch.vue`

`vue-eslint-parser` is added as a direct dependency because `import-x`
resolves parsers by package name, see

`test-backend#%` and `test-integration#%` passed the test name to the
shell unquoted, so regex characters broke the command. For example `make
'test-backend#^(TestA|TestB)$'` failed with `syntax error near
unexpected token '('`. The pattern is now single-quoted like the
neighbouring `-tags` argument.
On GitHub, one can close PRs via `Fixes: #123` references which was not

matches GH and ensured no regressions for external trackers.
Bump the TypeScript and Vite targets from ES2020 to ES2022. The frontend
already calls ES2022 APIs like `Object.hasOwn` and `Array.prototype.at`
without polyfills, so downleveling class syntax only added helpers. JS
output shrinks by 36 KB.
The only new syntax-level requirement is Safari 16.4 for mermaid, which
ships class static blocks. Pale Moon supports all emitted syntax since
32.2.
The ES2022 target implies `useDefineForClassFields`, so
`noImplicitOverride` is enabled to flag class fields that shadow
inherited DOM properties.

1. Fix the actions run summary block covering the panel's rounded corners and indenting wrapped stats
Generate emoji data from Unicode 17's `emoji-test.txt`, keeping existing
aliases. `public/assets/emoji.json` is now the single emoji data file,
also loaded by the backend. Rendered emoji drop their `aria-label`, the
dark theme inverts key on a new `data-alias` attribute instead.
Skin tone variants and their Gitea-only aliases are removed, GitHub has
none either.

`git commit --message=` passes the merge message as a single argument,
which Linux caps at 128 KiB and Windows at 32 KiB for the whole command

Pass the message via `--file=-` on stdin instead, and answer

error text. Limits merge commit messages to 512KB which could be

Update all eslint plugins and configure the new unicorn rules.
The new unicorn CSS rules stay off because stylelint already covers most

Update to [mermaid
v12](https://github.com/mermaid-js/mermaid/releases#release-mermaid@12.0.0),
ELK is now the default layout so the plugin and all supporting code is
gone.
Layout switching to previous `dagre` layout via frontmatter works as
expected. Diagrams use the new `neo` default look which renders them
slightly different (smaller boxes) then the `classic` look that was
default in v11.
The `neo` look got some tweaks to remove shadows and gradient to look
better. Also did some related refactors and mermaid dragging now works
on touch devices too.
`modulePreload: false` came in with the webpack to vite migration, when
chunks were cache-busted through import maps. With content-hashed chunks
that reason is gone. Vite's default makes every lazy import preload its
whole static dependency tree in parallel instead of the browser
discovering it one level per round trip, which renders lazy features like
mermaid, the code editor and the activity charts noticeably faster on
real-world latency without changing chunks or requests.

disabled `modernize` entirely.
- re-enable `modernize`, with only the new `embedlit` rule disabled. It
flattens embedded struct literals across ~145 files, and orphans imports
in 6 of them that the fixer does not remove
- apply the rest of the suite: `errors.AsType`, `reflect.TypeAssert`,
`strings.Cut`, and dropping the legacy import comment
- use the new stdlib `uuid` package, `github.com/google/uuid` becomes
indirect
- use `strings.CutLast` in place of manual `LastIndex` slicing in label
scopes, email domains and the diff tree list
- take the header lint skip dirs from the `go.mod` `ignore` directive
and skip dot-directories, instead of hardcoding the list

Speed up tests: `make test-backend` 103s to 37s, `make test-integration`
908s to 852s.
Most of it is a detached system notice insert blocking on the SQLite
write lock until the busy timeout expired, and `ExternalServiceHTTP`
re-probing on every call with an untimed `http.Get`.
- fixed one correctness bug with nested transactions: files were deleted
while the outer transaction was open, so a later failure could roll the
database back with the files gone
- git push branch counts were far above the hook batch size
- Fix makefile dependencies so running tests and lint work in fresh
worktrees.

`published_at` was an alias for `created_at`, so a release created from
an existing tag reported that tag's commit date as its publication time,
and drafts reported one despite never having been published. It is now
stored separately, set when a release is published and null for drafts.
`created_at` in turn means the date of the commit the release points at,
matching what GitHub documents it to be, and the latest release is
selected by it again. Publishing a release for an old commit no longer
takes over the latest badge, and a tag created in the web UI is dated
the same way as one pushed from the CLI.

Workflows using YAML anchors are rejected as invalid, because a workflow
is split into one document per job and an alias whose anchor lands in
another job's document no longer resolves.
Aliases are now expanded once, right after the workflow is parsed and
before anything reads or splits it, bounded like GitHub's parser so
nested aliases cannot expand without limit. Merge keys stay unsupported,
as they are upstream.

Various pages did not display the correct action run list tooltips. Fix
those tooltips like here on the `/pulls` page:
`ctx.Repo.Permission` is the zero value outside a repository route, so
on `/pulls`, `/issues`, `/notifications/subscriptions` and the dashboard
repo list the commit status "Details" link was always stripped. The live
job status is looked up from that target URL, so running checks also
rendered as a static pending dot instead of a spinner.
Resolve the Actions unit permission per repository instead.
Also drops the releases page's gate on *loading* statuses, which hid
external CI results from anyone without Actions read; it now loads them
and hides only the URL, like every other page.

- only `cache-seeder` writes caches, every other workflow restores.
Saves were being rejected once the repo went over its cache budget,
leaving main's caches stale and PR runs building cold
- seed the pnpm store and uv caches next to the go ones, so PRs
warm-start on them rather than installing from scratch
- prune keeps a single generation per key, including across go versions,
where a toolchain bump leaves the previous build cache unusable.
Reclaims ~2.6 GB immediately
- prune runs every 6h instead of daily and trims to 6 GB, since CodeQL
writes ~200 MB per push to main from outside this repo's workflows
- pull requests and release branches no longer write pnpm, uv and binfmt
caches, whose ref-scoped copies are never read again

itself, so this only breaks on branches without an npm update, where the
failed install blocks every post-upgrade command including `make tidy`,
leaving an untidy `go.sum` behind.
Seen on https://github.com/go-gitea/gitea/pull/38914.
Verified in `ghcr.io/renovatebot/renovate:latest`:
```
install-tool pnpm 11.22.0 exit=16
FATAL: parent tool not installed tool: "pnpm" parent: "node"
install-tool node 22.18.0 && install-tool pnpm 11.22.0 exit=0
```
- Hash emails with sha256. Gravatar moved to sha256, and both it and
libravatar.org serve the same image for either hash.
- Drop `strk.kbt.io/projects/go/libravatar` for a 46 line inline SRV
lookup. It could not bound or cancel its DNS query and panicked on an
unexpected resolver error. The replacement carries the request context
and a 3s timeout.
- Fix federated avatars querying DNS for every avatar on every render.
`loadAvatarSetting` compared a cache field that was never assigned, so
each call rebuilt the resolver and dropped its cache. That cache is
gone, both settings are read where they are used.
- Migration 348 recreates `email_hash` with a 64 char hash column and a
`hash_type` column, so a later algorithm change can tell old rows apart.
The MD5 rows are unreachable and their `UNIQUE` email index would reject
the SHA256 replacements.
- Fix a re-saved avatar form replacing an uploaded avatar with a random
one.
- Remove the `duoshuo` `GRAVATAR_SOURCE` alias, that service shut down
in 2017.
- Remove dead i18n key.

Migrate away from this thin ssh wrapper module while adding more test
coverage.
Removes `sessionPartial`, which hand-copied the layout of a private
`gliderlabs/ssh` struct and reinterpreted a pointer to it via
`reflect.UnsafePointer` to reach the permissions of the authenticated
connection. The layout is unchecked, so an upstream field reorder would
mismatch silently.
The builtin server only needs the session channel with `exec` and
`shell`. Serving those on `x/crypto` drops the hack and the dependency,
since `PublicKeyCallback` returns permissions per key and `x/crypto`
assigns them only after verifying the signature.
Two benign behavior changes:
1. Internal session handler errors report exit status 1 rather than 0,
so a client no longer reads a failure as success.
1. An unusable host key is fatal at startup instead of being replaced by
an ephemeral one that would trigger an error at the client.
Follow-up to https://github.com/go-gitea/gitea/pull/37571.
"Participating and mentions" deleted the watch row, so choosing it
dropped you out of the watcher count. It is a watch like the others, so
it now keeps a row and simply subscribes to no events.
The dashboard feed ignored the per-event options, so a "Custom: issues"
watcher still got pull request activity there. It now gates on the same
options as mail and notifications. That also closes a gap where pull
request reviews bypassed the permission check.

Enable [`forcetypeassert`](https://github.com/gostaticanalysis/forcetypeassert)
linter to prevent unchecked type assertions. ~650 issues fixed, most
fixes were clean, some use `setting.PanicInDevOrTesting`.
The only behaviour changes are where code would previously send a 500 error
or panic, a 4xx error is now emitted.

Renovate installs a toolchain only for the managers a branch actually
updates. A branch without a gomod update therefore has no `go` on
`PATH`, and `make tidy`
[fails](https://github.com/go-gitea/gitea/pull/38813#issuecomment-5211013198).
Fix by installing those tools. `node` is not needed because it comes
with renovate.

Few small tweaks that should improve the quality:
- Make agents read `docs` folder
- Shorter comments, shorter PR descriptions
- Modern Go features

The npm packument left `time`, `keywords` and `maintainers` empty
although the data was available. `created` and `modified` are derived
from the versions currently served, as there is no package-level
timestamp to read them from.

Accepts GitHub's `$/` self-repository prefix in a reusable workflow
`uses:`, alongside `./`.
Gitea's `./` already resolves against the caller's own source repo and
commit, which is what `$/` means, so the two are aliases here. Cycle
detection folds both prefixes onto one key.

Removes what would block a later switch to Vue's vapor mode:
`vue-chartjs` and the `SvgIcon` render function are virtual DOM
components, and `v-memo` has no vapor equivalent. This does not adopt
vapor mode, which will be stable in upcoming Vue 3.6.
`vue-chartjs` was a thin wrapper over chart.js, so a local
`ChartCanvas.vue` replaces it. Chart data and options move into computed
values to keep their object identity, which is what `v-memo` was
compensating for.
`chartjs-adapter-dayjs-4` is moved first-party, just ~40 lines that are
easy to maintain.
